Petroleum Corporations sore over poor public response

For every apartment, the corporations will provide a standby set of cylinders

The concept has earned enormous patronage in cities such as Chennai

Coimbatore: The Petroleum Corporations supplying Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) in Coimbatore region have come out with a solution for the cooking gas needs of those living in apartments and organised colonies.

The two major players in the Coimbatore region’s LPG market, Indane (Indian Oil Corporation) and Bharat Gas (Bharat Petroleum Corporation) are offering bulk LPG solution to the apartments and organised residential colonies. Unfortunately only eight apartments have gone in for the same so far in the city. In the event of new apartments, the promoters could offer the same as a value addition. Under this scheme, the corporations said that for an investment ranging from Rs. 15,000 to a maximum of Rs. 30,000 (depending on the number of houses), piped gas known as Reticulated LPG system could be provided. With this investment, the corporations said that their distributors were trained to install the facility that came with safety fire alarm besides an alarm indicator when the LPG containers were about to become empty.

Under this facility, the petroleum corporations through their dealers would fit gadgets that would be fed by eight or ten cylinders for every individual house through copper pipelines. The apartment should provide a small room for fixing the gadget and for placing the cylinders.

For every apartment, the corporations would provide a standby set of cylinders. Once the facility was installed, the occupant or the buyer of the apartment need not worry about getting an LPG connection or transferring his old connection to the new address. The residents need not visit or phone up the dealer for the refill and need not stay put at the house for getting the refill.

The concept has earned enormous patronage in cities such as Chennai while the response was yet to pick up in places such as Coimbatore, Tirupur and Erode. In the case of huge apartments or residential colonies, the petroleum corporations were ready to even install bullet LPG containers for storing the LPG and supply refill through trucks.

All that promoters of apartments need to do was to approach the Area offices of the Indane or Bharat Petroleum.
